Design/Build Bermont Road Improvements
SED is part of a design/build team that is designing
safety improvements on Bermont Road (C.R. 74) in eastern Charlotte
County. The improvements are
necessary with its proximity to dirt
mines, citrus groves, and cattle ranches, Bermont Road experiences a
high volume of truck traffic. The design will include
four (4) ft. paved shoulders on both sides of the road from the U.S. 17
intersection to the S.R. 31 intersection. This design will be
complicated by environmental issues such as existing wetlands in the
roadside ditches and the existing topography of the ditches. Other
safety improvements to the roadway, whose design will
be accomplished by SED’s design partners, include: modifying the
roadway profile at the Bronco Road intersection and replacing the
culvert structure on Bermont Road.
Edgewater Drive Improvements
SED is currently designing
and permitting this two-mile segment of two-lane to four-lane
widening of Edgewater Drive in Port Charlotte, FL. The project
involves roundabouts at the intersections of Midway Boulvevard,
Lakeview Boulevard, Port Charlotte Boulevard and W. Tarpon
Boulevard relocated to the entrance to Lea Marie Island Drive. The
project
also involves multi-use paths on both sides of the road (providing connection of
Sunrise Park with West Spring Lake Park), a new mast-arm traffic signal at
the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Edgewater Drive,
decorative
Street Lighting, landscaping in the median,
and replacement of three bridges (designed by a
sub-consultant), The storm water management
system for Edgewater Drive Phase II will be designed to meet the
impaired
water body standards of the Southwest Florida
Water Management District while still
blending into the residential neighborhood and public park surroundings.
Multi-Use
Recreational Trail (MURT) Phases II & III
SED
is providing permitting services and QA/QC Peer Review sub-consultant
to Johnson
Engineering for this 1.2-mile (Phase II) trail along U.S. 41 from Airport Road to Aqui Esta
Drive and the 1.8-mile (Phase III) trail along U.S. 41 from Monaco
Drive to
Acline Road. SED was chosen by Johnson Engineering for these tasks do
to our
extensive experience in design and permitting of roads, sidewalk,
trail, and transportation
projects.
Charlotte County Air
Traffic Control Tower (PGD – ATCT)
SED is providing civil site design and
permitting services for the Charlotte County Airport Authority located
in Punta Gorda, Florida. This state of the art Air
Traffic Control Tower including antennas is approximately 24’ x 27’
with an octagonal shaped steel framed cab. The structure is designed to
withstand a Category IV hurricane of 130 mph, 3-second
gusts. Our engineering professionals provided the design of
the entire site, including the siting of the tower to meet current
FAA security regulations. Also included in the design is he security
perimeter
fence, an ADA-compliant parking lot, and new water, sewer, and fire
utility systems for the tower. The airport property has an
authority-approved Master Stormwater Plan that accounts for runoff
attenuation for existing and (known) proposed structures and impervious
surfaces. Construction of the Site Improvements commenced in the autumn
of 2010 with an anticipated completion date of July 2011.
Shell Creek Reverse
Osmosis Plant
SED
performed
preliminary site engineering for the new Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Plant
located at
the City of Punta Gorda’s
Shell Creek Water Treatment Plant. SED
was tasked with providing site engineering and permitting service for
the new
facility. As a subconsultant to TetraTech
(the
physical plant designer) we developed a site plan to provide personnel
and truck
access to the new facility.
One issue that arose during design was that an existing
driveway bisects the plant property and separates the existing
treatment
facility with the proposed facility. SED has worked with the City of
Punta Gorda
and surrounding landowners to negotiate a revised access plan and
easement for
those affected landowners.
